Current Opportunities

We are always in need of dedicated volunteers to help with our many programs. We have a need for volunteers on a one-time basis, as well as ongoing activities in the following programs:

• Affordable Housing - parties and entertainment for residents; cleaning / beautification of common areas and property
• Meals On Wheels - delivering meals (drivers and visitors); limited packaging assistance
• Senior Centers - parties and entertainment for senior participants; educational workshops or lectures for participants; cleaning / beautification of centers

Lutheran Service Society is now a volunteer recruitment partner with Open Your Heart to a Senior, an initiative of United Way of Allegheny County, working to recruit, train, and place individuals and groups to volunteer with seniors in Allegheny County, Pa.  Our staff are available at many of OYHS's orientation meetings to share our current volunteer opportunities, and to train and place interested volunteers at the close of the main orientation.  View the OYHS calendar by clicking here.  You can sign up for a scheduled orientation by clicking on the desired date and then "Sign Up." On the brief sign up form, you can specify "Lutheran Service Society" in the Organization field to alert OYHS of your specific interest in our opportunities. 

We occasionally have volunteer needs that become available last-minute.  In these cases, it would be helpful to have a list of volunteers that we can call or e-mail with short notice to help with these needs. If you would like to be a substitute volunteer or a volunteer on this occasional list, please let us know by completing the online volunteer application or by speaking with our director of volunteer services at 412-307-1796. Being on this list does not obligate you to fill any request we send.  We will inform you as these opportunities arise, and you can simply let us know if you are interested in helping at that time.
