(Beaver County)
LSS in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, administers The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) for Beaver county. TEFAP serves as the major distribution component for the delivery of surplus food commodities into the food pantry system for distribution to low income families.
In Beaver County, LSS coordinates through the Salvation Army for distributions to 48 different communities. TEFAP now distributes a wide variety of nonperishable food products, including canned and frozen meats; fruit juices; canned and frozen vegetables; infant formula; instant potatoes; instant baking mix; rice; noodles; pasta; peanut butter and egg mix, among others. Through TEFAP, LSS allocates an average of 2.1 million pounds of surplus food products, annually. LSS administers TEFAP in accordance with eligibility guidelines established by the United States and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Departments of Agriculture. Generally, total household income is limited to less than 150% of the federal poverty guideline. For additional information about eligibility or availability of food through low income food pantries, contact Lorinda Hayes at 412-734-9330 or lhayes@lsswpa.org.
