LSS SeniorNet offers courses and workshops for adults 50+ years. We offer learning opportunities for seniors with little or no prior knowledge of computers and seniors with intermediate skills. Our courses and workshops feature limited class size, peer instruction and hands-on experience. Our staff will be glad to assist you in selecting the courses that best meet your needs. Mousing & Keyboarding – If you have little or no prior experience with personal computers you’ll want to start here. This course provides the first-time user with the basic skills necessary to begin computing. You’ll learn how to use the mouse and keyboard to navigate the desktop, open and close programs and turn the computer on and off. In addition you’ll learn the basics of word processing. Instruction is based on simple exercises and games making for a fun-filled and informative learning experience.
Beginning Internet & Email I – This course will teach you how the Internet works, how to navigate using the worldwide web to search for information. In addition, you’ll learn the basics of e-mail and how to open a free e-mail account on the Internet.
Beginning Internet & Email II – You will improve your basic email skills in this course. We’ll continue to use Yahoo!, a web-based email service. Learn how to use CC and BCC, create and edit a Yahoo address book, make distribution lists and send and receive email attachments.
Word Processing Basics - Building on the knowledge and skills you gained in Mousing & Keyboarding, this course will teach you how to create documents in MS Word and save them on your computer.
File Management – File management is an essential computer skill. In this course you will learn how to create, copy, delete, move, rename and view files and folders on your computer.)
PC Maintenance & Safety - Keep your PC running at peak efficiency by following a simple schedule of routine maintenance chores such as Disk Cleanup, Error Checker and Defragmenter. In addition, you will learn how about critical updates, firewalls and anti-virus & anti-spyware programs.
Digital Photo FUNdamentals – This is a great class for students interested in digital photography. Learn the basics of photo scanning, editing, storage and more.
In addition to our courses, you will also have the opportunity to learn about personal computers by participating in our workshops. Workshops meet every week (see schedule below). Each workshop will feature a variety of topics designed to keep you up-to-date with the ever-changing world of computers and digital technology. ($10/session)
