NAP Recipe of the Month - September 2008
Tips for Increasing Whole Grains in Your Diet
Instead of a recipe this month, I’m including some tips for increasing whole grains in your diet.
- Buy several loaves of whole-grain breads to see which one you like best. Use it for your morning toast or your favorite lunchtime sandwich.
- Serve brown rice instead of potatoes with dinner one night this month.
- Try a new whole-grain breakfast cereal (see Nutrition Tip)
- Cook up a pot of steel-cut oatmeal
- Try some whole-wheat pasta
- Purchase or make a whole wheat pizza crust or use a whole wheat pita as a crust.
- Serve hamburgers with whole wheat buns this week
- Make your favorite cookies with whole wheat flour instead of white flour
Eating better is not an all-or-nothing choice, every little improvement you make in your food help.
