Making Sense of Tech Alphabet Soup
One of the most frustrating tasks for new computer users is learning the definitions of numerous technical acronyms. Terms like ISP, PDF, PC, CD-ROM, DVD-R/W etc. create a tech alphabet soup. Learning how to decipher these terms is essential for understanding how computers work.
Google can help.
Simply open Google (www.google.com). In the keyword search box type Define: and the acronym you wish to define. For example, to get the definition of an ISP type Define: ISP into the Google keyword search box. Click Google Search and you will see that ISP stands for Internet Service Provider.
PS: The Define: tool also works for common words and phrases. It's like having a dictionary at your fingertips.
