Leo Campbell is Volunteer of the Year!

In commemoration of National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, Lutheran Service Society conducted its annual volunteer appreciation activities, which included sending a "thank you" to all of the agency's volunteers, and by recognizing outstanding volunteers with special awards.

Among all of the volunteer nominations, the selection committee felt one individual stood out among even the cream of the volunteer crop: Leo Campbell.  Leo volunteers at Chicora Senior Center, and was originally nominated (and won) for the most versatile volunteer award in the senior centers category.  Below are excerpts from the nomination:

All around great man - will deliver meals and train others to do this.  If a person cancels that is scheduled to deliver - Leo steps right in and says he will do it.  Checks on some other people here at the center if we don't hear from them or see them in a couple of days - humanitarian.  Fixes things around the center - has repaired things and done cement work on our sidewalks - better than the job the lodge did the year before.  Leo has dug ditches and laid pipe to drain the water away from our parking area out back, which keeps ice pools off the sidewalk that leads up to the entrance of the center.  He has come up with some suggestions to help things run smoother at the center.  He is always helping others and cleaning around in the mornings when he comes to the center.

Chief Development Officer Patty Davidson, Director of Volunteer Services Leslie Montgomery, Director of Center Clustered Services Maureen Huff, and Program Manager for Center Clustered Services Sue Weaver all joined Chicora Senior Center Manager Karen Sheakley at the center to honor Leo with a special party on Thursday, April 14.  During Leslie Montgomery's remarks, she noted that without being asked Leo even helped her bring in items from her car for the party.

Other volunteers who received votes for Lutheran Service Society's Volunteer of the Year are: Marge Pecoraro, Frank Greppi, Buck Thoma, Susan Holzer, and Dave Henning.
