Created on: Thu, 04/29/2010 - 4:32pm
On Wednesday, March 24, Lutheran Service Society participated in Mayors For Meals Day, a national event of the Meals On Wheels Association of America. Seventeen local mayors and other officials participated in the event to show support for the seniors living in their communities. In honor of this national event, mayors across the country delivered with their local Meals On Wheels locations on this day. As this region's largest provider of Meals On Wheels, Lutheran Service Society participated on a large scale.
The following mayors participated with Lutheran Service Society's Meals On Wheels locations:
- Bridgewater mayor Heidi Paul delivered with Beaver Area MOW.
- Millvale mayor Vincent Cinski delivered with Millvale MOW. Mayor Cinski and his wife are regular volunteers of Millvale MOW

- Hopewell Township manager Andy Brunette delivered with 5 Points / Hopewell MOW.

"The event was designed to raise awareness of senior hunger," says Leslie Montgomery, director of volunteer services for Lutheran Service Society. "We are hoping that people will get excited and become new supporters or volunteers of Meals On Wheels."
Lutheran Service Society's 40+ Meals On Wheels locations do need additional support and volunteers. Each location is operated almost entirely by volunteers, who prepare and deliver meals to the homebound. Volunteers are needed at each location on weekday mornings.
