Long-Time Employee Remembered

THERESA BRYNER

April 28, 1929 - October 21, 2011

The name Theresa Bryner has been synonymous with "Meals On Wheels" in the McKeesport area for the past 38 years.  In 1973, Theresa began her calling at Meals On Wheels as a volunteer there. In 1987, Theresa then became an assistant to the cook at the kitchen, which she continued for another two years. When the cook at the time retired in 1989, she moved into that position, which she held for 22 years.

Dave Bryner, Theresa's husband, told us she had a lot of practice before coming to Meals On Wheels. Every holiday she would cook enough food for her own large family plus eleven of her neighbors who were either shut-ins or had no family of their own. Before sitting down to eat herself, she would deliver these 11 meals. Theresa knew the true meaning of "giving" and carried that meaning into her work at Meals On Wheels.

Theresa's care did not go unnoticed in the community. Senator Jim Brewster (then Mayor of McKeesport) honored Theresa by presenting her with a key to the city.

Theresa has been an invaluable asset to Lutheran Service Society, to Rose Marshall - the site coordinator at the McKeesport Meals On Wheels kitchen, to the Meals On Wheels volunteers, and most especially to the many clients who never set eyes on Theresa, but received the benefit of her delicious meals.
