Lutheran Service Society Senior Companion Honored

On Friday, June 5, 2009, at the annual recognition luncheon of the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging's Senior Companion Program, one of Lutheran Service Society's senior companions was announced to be the Senior Companion of the Year. Only the Senior Companion Program council members and the SCP/Area Agency on Aging program director are aware of the recipient until the announcement is made at the luncheon, so when Dorothy Pisano's name was announced as the distinguished honoree, she and her friends were pleasantly surprised with the news.
Kyna Timko, director of Senior Social Services at Lutheran Service Society noted, "The announcement of the Senior Companion of the Year is a very big deal and a great honor. I am delighted that Dorothy has received this recognition for her work as a senior companion."
Dorothy has served with the program for 15 years.
Among those recognized for years of service were two of Dorothy's fellow senior companions at Lutheran Service Society: Sam Bieller for 5 years of service, and Carmella Tarasi for 29 years of service.
Our many congratulations and thanks to these individuals for providing a valuable service to area seniors.
