For the past six months, Lutheran Service Society has been demonstrating the benefits of "Service Coordination" for seniors in the agency's affordable housing program. Residents at Manly Heights, one of eight properties managed by Lutheran Service Society, have benefitted from receiving information and referrals to support their goal of remaining healthy and independent - aging in place. Employee Teresa Martin has been providing the service at Manly Heights, which is located in Union City, Pa. As an extension of this work, Lutheran Service Society will add a neighborhood computer network and class offerings to educate the residents at Manly Heights on the Internet and how to conduct online research for services.
"Service Coordination is a strong enhancement to our affordable housing program," states John Dickey, the agency's chief operations officer. "It helps us to fulfill our mission to empower our neighbors to lead independent, dignified, and secure lives by providing low-income seniors with the opportunity to find ways to have their individual needs addressed."
Lutheran Service Society expects to continue Service Coordination as residents in the agency's affordable housing community present the need of information and referral services.
