The Emergency Food Assistance Program
In conjunction with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Lutheran Service Society administers The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) for Beaver County, Pa. TEFAP helps get surplus food commodities into the food pantry system for distribution to low income families in 48 different communities.
Some examples of the foods available through this program are:
- Canned and frozen meats
- Canned and frozen vegetables
- Fruit juices
- Infant formula
- Rice
- Instant potatoes
- Noodles
- Instant baking mix
- Pasta
- Peanut butter
- Egg mix
Lutheran Service Society administers TEFAP in accordance with the eligibility guidelines established by the United States and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Departments of Agriculture. Generally, total household income is limited to less than 150% of the federal poverty guideline to qualify.
Through TEFAP, Lutheran Service Society allocates an average of 2.1 million pounds of surplus food products annually.
